Why I Run

Working on "The Bucket List" this week has proven to be difficult. With extra work shifts and Lucas being extra demanding, it has been hard for me to squeeze any time in for myself. Luckily I can sneak out every day at least once to get some running in. And luckily I have a few friends who are always ready to run. Even if its just around the neighborhood while I push a screaming kid in his stroller! At my weekly weigh in this week I have reached a new high.. which is actually a new low.. My lowest weight ever. Which I am pretty excited about. A few more pounds to go!

I am training for a half marathon, although I still haven't made the commitment and signed up for one yet. I have been thinking of doing the one in Leavenworth, which happens in October during October fest. If I do this one I am sure I can convince at least someone to come support me, even if they are drunk they can still be waiting at the finish line. Hahaha. The other option is the Spokane marathon which also happens in October, and is along the same course as the annual Bloomsday 12K race. It just has some added miles at the beginning and the end. Either way I am going to have to step up and sign up for one so I have something to actually train for. I find that is the key to running. I try to get everyone I know to sign up for races, even if its just a 5K. If you have something to work towards, a shirt to earn, a date to look forward to, you are more apt to train for it and stick to it. That's how I got started and how I continue to train and improve.

My grandmother is a great runner. She has done many many marathons and it is my goal to follow in her footsteps. I never thought I could but it takes that first race, that first shirt you earn to get the sense of accomplishment. Once you know in your head that you can do it, your body follows. I will be doing the Cherry Pickers Trot the end of July up at Green bluff. My mom and I started walking it a few years ago when we first started our weight loss journey. This year I will be running, my mom and sisters will be there, along with my running buddy Kristina. I encourage everyone who reads this to go too. Get out there, do a couch to 5 K program sign up for the race and start training.
